We all enjoy our food, when made with all the right spices it seems to bring out the right flavor to everything you cook. But did you know there are five things we use every day of our lives and they make your day go better, taste better? But even with moderation, they do your body wrong.
As you continue to use these five foods, you may not realize that they are affecting your bone density. If you have osteoporosis, stop eating foods that dissolve bones.
7 Foods That Dissolve Bones
1.) Soda
Many people drink this beverage every day, not realizing the damage it is doing to your bones. Every time you drink soda the Phosphorous found in sodas contribute to bone loss. Here is where moderation comes in, try to get more dairy in, it makes a big difference.
2.) Salt
Cutting back on salt is hard to do. I know, because all the foods we love to eat have salt added to them, some more them others. Our body loses calcium with salt, which leads to bone loss. So, it is important to read the nutrition facts on the labels. If it says 20%, that is too high. Many processed foods do have a lot of salt.
3.) Beans
Who could believe that beans absorb calcium? But, they do. Beans have a substance called phytates which interferes and absorbs calcium. But if you soak them before cooking, you are good to go.
4.) Alcohol
Drinking 2 to 3 drinks and no more is a good limit per day. More than that? Drinking more than your daily allotment (2 to 3) will cost you in additional bone loss.
5.) Caffeine
Caffeine is a hard one because many of us start our day with a nice cup of coffee to wake us up for the day. The caffeine decreases calcium absorption. But if drinking a cup of coffee in moderation, then you should be fine.
6.) Meats
We all eat meats and many enjoy a good steak. But I am talking more about processed meats, like sandwich meats, hotdogs, jerkies, and so many more. All these have proteins, but also are full of salts that interfere with the absorption of calcium in the bones of the body.
7.) Vegetables
Who would have thought that veggies would be unhealthy and would have to be eaten in moderation? Well, some, not all, need to be cut back on, like mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes.
Even though these veggies can cause us inflammation, which in turn will affect the bones, they still have other vitamins and minerals our body needs.
So, we again need to use these vegetables in moderation.
We need to check even our leafy greens like raw spinach and swiss chard, they both contain bone-healthy calcium but at the same time have oxalates which bind the calcium and make it unavailable to the body.
I have always enjoyed my vegetables and preferred to eat them instead of red meat. It is still a better choice for me. But all this is a game-changer when it comes to eating veggies.
It is bad enough trying to get your children to eat their vegetables and them refusing, but if they find out that eating your veggies is a farce, we are in trouble.
But the saying, “what they don’t know won’t hurt them,” that has changed. And as parents, we have to be a good example to our children.
So keep giving them their vegetables in moderation.
Sorry kiddos, you still have to eat your veggies.
